Drew Daniel from Matmos is about to release a metal cover album with his side project The Soft Pink Truth. The album reimagines metal songs as rave and house tracks and, as Stereogum puts it, “comes together as a fascinating glimpse into the mind of Daniel processing being a gay fan of black metal."
The first track of the project, a cover of Venom’s seminal song, will probably annoy the hell out of your trve metal friends (and most other friends) but I think it is weird and awesome. Like most Matmos stuff.
Start your weekend off right with this spheric, heavy remix of Portugal. the Man’s “Modern Jesus” by Charlie XCX.
My favorite Portugal. the Man dance jam, however, will always be Chicago. I think I’ve burned my youth down to that song.
Mykki Blanco – Haze.Boogie.Life
Not much to say. It’s Friday and I’m fascinated. And the beat is sinister.
This weekend, take a bus going nowhere in particular.
5 minute dance party break on your Friday afternoon at the desk with Frank Turner’s “Four Simple Words.” A cut off his new record Tape Deck Heart. This song is going to be amazing live.
So – put your hands on your hips, bring your knees in tight, yeah we do this shit together man, no fists, no fights…
