“I wanna smile like a letter from an old friend
My arms are open oceans
How I’ve missed you, and feelin’ good to be alive”

It’s amazing how much the new Gaslight Anthem feels like a smile, a letter from an old friend, a spark, a positive charge to me.

I listened to listened to The Gaslight Anthem and in particular ’59 Sound a lot during a really difficult time in my life. I cried a lot when I finally saw them live for the first time, some tears of sadness, but mainly tears of happiness. But I got to see them live, this band with the guy from my sort of hometown in my other hometown. After years when my brain was almost exclusively firing negative sparks, I was still there to sing along to the “Patient Ferris Wheel“. No one had to call an ambulance.

And now I’m still around, walking back home from work, ready for a comeback from The Gaslight Anthem.
