I tend to be a subscriber to the idea that you have everything you need by the time you’re 12 years old to do interesting writing for most of the rest of your life – certainly by the time you’re 18. But I do find it helps me with form, in that something may just inspire me, may give me an idea as to the form I’m going to create something in, or maybe the setting. Ten or 12 years ago, nature writing struck my imagination and it’s seeped into my work a little bit here and there ever since.. It’s all kinds of things… So when you go to record with your band, you have all those sounds, you’ve created a bank.
