i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered
where does it hurt?

Warsan Shire: What They Did Yesterday Afternoon

Friends on Instagram shared this quote by Warsan Shire today. This resonates so much after the horrible violence in Syria, Iraq, Beirut and then Paris yesterday.

The poem used to be on Warsan Shire’s tumblr, I’m not sure if there is an official, published version out there at the moment. here is a reblogged copy in full.  Her newest collection “Her Blue Body”  will be released on November 19th.
