Bottled Water Comes From the Most Drought-Ridden Places in the Country | Mother Jones

On the one hand, blaming the bottled water companies and pointing to the current drought isn’t entirely fair – in most cases, facilities have been in their area for decades, and moving an industrial facility of this size obviously isn’t possible in a year.
On the other hand, if this is the complete list, I am surprised by the locations of the facilities. Aquafina, Dasani, Arrowhead, and Crystal Geyser are all national, if not international brands. Just based on geography, I would’ve guessed the water sources to be in the Pacific northwest or near the Great Lakes. Who thought it would be a good idea to source water from Southern California?
Then again, as the Mother Jones article points out, the production of bottled water is “murky.”
