Being German – and in Germany – we don’t really celebrate Thanksgiving. But since I do have a close connection to the US, I did cook an unusually lavish lunch today. I don’t have a pretty instagram picture to prove it (the one I took didn’t turn out well – damn you cellphone flash!) but it was delicious. Not to brag, but: Organic turkey filet in a nutmeg-balsamic marinade, balsamic-nutmeg roasted carrots, boiled potatoes with delicious and light mushroom gravy. Omnomnom.
But since the tradition of thanksgiving and the US is a troubled one, in this context especially concerning the treatment of Native Americans from colonial days up to today, I will match what I spent on groceries for this lunch as a donation to the Native American Heritage Fund, just like last year. Maybe some of my (US-American) readers can afford to do the same?
