It doesn’t look good for 2012: States in red attempted to pass stricter voting laws, such as requiring voter IDs or shortening the period for absentee voting, and states with symbols have already succeeded in restricting voting rights. 

“The states that have already cut back on voting rights will provide 171 electoral votes in 2012 – 63 percent of the 270 needed to win the presidency.”
